Help Stop Conservative Hate Speech on Public Airwaves

On Monday morning, Pat Robertson called for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

This morning, he lied about his previous statements, saying he never used the word "assassination."

Unfortunately, Robertson has a history of making outrageous and hateful comments. For example, he has blamed gays for divorce, abortion, and the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. He also said that a gay-oriented event would bring about "terrorist bombs ... earthquakes, tornadoes, and possibly a meteor," and he has called "activist" judges a greater threat to the United States than terrorists.

Several cable channels -- including ABC Family -- and local broadcasters show Robertson's The 700 Club, even though his comments are not appropriate for children -- or anyone else, for that matter.

Numerous organizations and individuals, both religious and secular, have denounced his comments. Responsible shows and news outlets should think twice before providing him a platform from which to peddle his false and hateful claims.

Take action today, and urge the channels below to stop airing The 700 Club:

ABC Family: http://abcfamily.go.com/feedback/ (Since The 700 Club is not listed as a show on ABC Family's website, leave the "Choose a Show" field blank.)

FamilyNet: http://www.familynet.com/site/contact

Trinity Broadcasting Network: http://www.tbn.org/index.php/9.html or send email to comments@tbn.org

Tips on giving feedback:

Be polite, and clearly state what you want.
Make your subject line clear and concise.
Limit your email to about 250 words or fewer.
Include a Web link to any information you reference.
Thank you for taking action. Together, we can help ensure our airwaves stay free of conservative hate and misinformation.

Sincerely,

David Brock
