US Treasury Secretary John Snow cemented his status as master of the obvious
when he conceded yesterday that the economic gains made under the Bush
administration
haven't been equally distributed. "One of the things we know is that less
educated people have seen their incomes and wages grow more slowly. That's
what
the numbers tell us," Snow said as Bush's economic team prepares to gather
in Crawford. Of course, with wealth and education levels tied so closely, it

Another day, another poll confirming just how out of touch President Bush is
with the American public. Check out these numbers from the latest CNN/USA
Today/Gallup
poll: 56 percent favor federal funding for stem cells (a move Bush opposes),
57 percent say the war in Iraq has made us less safe from terrorism, and 51
percent are dissatisfied with Bush's job as president. Let's just say that
if President Bush went to the political capital ATM right now, the machine
would
eat his card.

Spending restraint? President Bush and the Republican-controlled Congress
have demonstrated about as much restraint as Donald Trump on payday.
And let's not fall into this "progress on the deficit" trap either.
Remember, if we're measuring Bush's "progress" from the record surpluses
that he inherited,
he'd still be so far behind he couldn't see the starting line with the
Hubble telescope.
